2. Match report Sun 23 March Women v Kingsbridge


Match Report Sun 23rd March – Teignmouth Women V Kingsbridge Women
The opening kick of the match was with Teigns which gave them an early scrum due to Kingsbridge knock on. This was won and went out to the backs who were pushing up. Kingsbridge stole the ball in the ruck, but it was quickly stolen back. The game saw possession switch frequently between the teams and a great tackle by Dunn caused Kingsbridge to knock on. Teigns won their scrum and kicked for a line-out which they also won and good leg drive was seen by Meacham. Kingsbridge stole the ball in the ruck, but Baker quickly stole it back, advantage to Teigns. When the game went back to the advantage Teigns lost their line-out and a big tackle was put in by captain Sutcliffe. Kingsbridge kicked over the top and the ball was caught by the same player who scored a converted try, 7-0.
Kingsbridge were pushing up but taken into touch. A series of kicks followed and on the final one Kingsbridge found a gap on the wing and scored another converted try, 14-0.
Teigns gained possession and were awarded 2 penalties in a row and an advantage. Molly made it over the line but was held up and the game went back to the previous advantage. Teigns were pushing up, but knocked on. Kingsbridge won their scrum and kicked for touch. Kingsbridge line-out was lost when Vernel stole the ball. Kingsbridge then gained another scrum due to Teign’s knock on, they won the scrum but the ball was intercepted by Humphries who scored under the posts, converted by Evans, 14-7.
Some great handling was seen by Humphries, Sutcliffe and Grose. Good leg drive again by Meacham and a hard tackle by Sutcliffe caused a Kingsbridge knock on, however the score remained at 14-7 going into half time.
Kingsbridge began the second half by gaining a scrum which they won and were looking like scoring on the wing but were tackled into touch by a double tackle from Avery and Grose. However, they didn’t hold them off for long and when Teigns kicked off the back of a scrum Kingsbridge scored an unconverted try, 19-7.
Kingsbridge put pressure on Teigns and twice went over the line but were held up both times, however the pressure continued, and they gained 2 tries to take the score to 29-7.
Kingsbridge were back in possession. Teigns had suffered a succession of injuries but continued their fight. Kingsbridge used their wing again and Avery defended to stop a try. Another battle came at the try line and Teign’s defence held well to come up with another ‘no try’ decision. However, Kingsbridge continued their fight and eventually scored leaving the final score at 34-7.
Forward to the match went to Ellen Vernel and back of the match to Enya Humphries.
