7. Match report Sat 25th January - Teignmouth 2nd v Okehampton 2nd

After a torrential night of rain, the volunteers at Teignmouth RFC got out the forks and buckets and drained the pitch enough for the 2nd XV to take on Okehampton, in what turned out to be one of the best games played at Bitton Park this season.
For the first time in a number of weeks Director of Rugby, Marcus Webb, was able to name a squad of 20 for the game. Although a number of former colts were absent, the return of Nathan Full and others in the midfield ensured that the Teigns had the pace and strength to match Okehampton’s younger talent. Both in attack and defence, the Teigns took the game to their opponents and after a drive within the 5m area, Louis Walker dived over to give the lead to Teignmouth.
The Teigns led 5-0 at half-time but Okehampton brought on a number of fresh heavy forwards and began to dominate in the scrum enabling them to take the lead and build on it.
Player of the Match Will Annal gave the Teigns a lift, but it was too late in the game to exploit further and Okehampton took the points from a pulsating game. Final score was 10-19.
The Teigns have started to gather momentum with players returning from injury and holidays and Head Coach Colin Stewart is looking forward to the remainder of the season and what the squad can offer. The 2nd XV shown the fighting spirit that has been lacking over the last few months and has brightened up Bitton Park!
